Valencia's Hidden Beaches: Beyond Malvarrosa

Kevin Cohen5 January 20265 min read

Malvarrosa is Valencia's famous urban beach, and it's great for a quick dip. But the real magic is a short ride away.

El Saler: The Natural One

12 km south of Valencia | Bus 25, 40 min | Taxi ~15 min

El Saler sits inside the Albufera Natural Park. Forget boardwalks and beach bars — this is raw Mediterranean coastline with pine forests running right up to fine golden sand. The dunes are protected, the water is crystal clear, and in low season you might have a stretch of beach to yourself.

Combine El Saler with a boat ride on the Albufera lake and paella at El Palmar. It's the perfect Valencia day trip.

La Patacona: The Trendy One

5 km north | Tram L4, 20 min | Bike, 18 min

Just past Malvarrosa, La Patacona has the same wide sand with better restaurants and a younger crowd. The beachfront restaurants here serve proper food (not tourist menus), and the cocktail bars fill up at sunset.

Come for Sunday brunch facing the sea. Stay for the golden hour.

Pinedo: The Local Secret

8 km south | Bus 25, 25 min | Bike, 20 min

Pinedo beach is where Valencians go to escape other Valencians. A thin strip of sand between the port and the Albufera park, it's quiet, uncrowded, and has a handful of authentic rice restaurants where the menu is whatever came off the boats that morning.

Practical Tips

  • Best beach months: June through October
  • Water temperature: 22-27°C in summer, still swimmable in October
  • Getting there: The Valenbisi bike system (€13/week) or the EMT bus network covers all three beaches
  • From NeoBeds: Malvarrosa is 15 minutes by bus, El Saler is 40 minutes, La Patacona is 20 minutes by tram

All distances measured from NeoBeds apartments near Torres de Serranos.
